Crochet Stitches

UK vs US Stitch Terminology

These are the differences between UK and US stitches. I’m a bit of a traitor and I prefer US terms because they make more sense to me. For instance a double crochet stitch has 2 distinct actions to it so it feels like it should be called double not treble like in the UK.

Slip Knot

Step 1

Wrap your tail end of your yarn behind the working end of your yarn to form a loop.

Step 2

Place you finger and thumb in the loop and pick up the working end of the yarn and pull it through in a loop.

Step 3

Place this loop of the end of your hook and tighten.

Chain

Step 1

Yarn over pull through one loop.

Step 2

Keep going until you have your desired length of chain.

Example

Ch 5 would be yarn over, pull through one loop, yarn over, pull through one loop, yarn over, pull through one loop, yarn over, pull through one loop, yarn over, pull through one loop.
